The Caribbean is famous for many things, its beautiful beaches, its lush green forests, and it's radiant sunshine. This warm lovely weather plays an integral role in creating one of the Caribbean's best products, Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.
The Blue Mountains are located between Kingston to the south and Port Maria to the north, rising to over 7400 feet at it's highest point.
The climate of the Blue Mountain is cool and misty with frequent rain fall, the soil is rich and fertile with excellent drainage resulting in minimum soil erosion.
Coffee grows at varying altitudes ranging from 1500ft. to 5000ft. The parishes of St. Andrew, Portland and St. Thomas falls within the 10 mile radius of the blue mountain peak where the premium coffee is grown at 5000ft.
These are the key factors which creates the perfect symmetry between flavour, sweetness, a rich aroma and a balanced acidity, giving Blue mountain coffee it's distinct flavour.
Coffee was first introduced to the island in 1725 when the then governor Sir Nichols Lawes planted seven Arabica been on his estate in St. Andrew know as Temple Hall. These seedlings were from the island of Martinique, where coffee was being cultivated since 1717 by order of the French King Louis XV.
However coffee production took off in the late 18th century when many Haitian coffee planters fled to Jamaica during the Haitian Revolution, and started to plant in the Blue Mountains.
In the 1940's the Jamiacan Government created the Coffee Industry Board to regulate production, and the processing of Coffee. To ensure consistent quality, which is fundamental to Blue mountain Coffee, the board certifies all Jamaican Coffee, and issues a designated seal of authenticity to all green and roasted coffee exported from the island.
Loved by Coffee connoisseurs world over, Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is regarded as one the finest coffee money can buy.
